    With growing content and live sports events, validation of video stream is atmost priority, to check whether a stream is playable and metrics to quantify the quality of video that is being served to the user. In Hotstar, there are multiple live events that are being published on daily basis. How do we ensure the quality of video or whether the content is even playable?

    There was no tool available in the market with the capability of verifying multiple streams (HLS & DASH) in parallel. So we decided to build something in-house.

    Validation of live video stream by using ‘video-validator’ tool is the solution that we came up with. This tool is a service that picks up published live content automatically and triggers video stream check in all possible streams at the same time and stops the validation when a content is unpublished, which mean no manual intervention , no need to run Jenkins or any other CI-CD pipelines manually. This tool checks the quality of video stream across both HLS and DASH stream. It supports multiple stream validations in parallel and pushes realtime reports to Grafana for visibility. We have also developed a dashboard to keep track of the contents that are picked up for validation and maintains the status so that any authorised user can see multiple stages of validations – if the content is picked up for validation, if its queued or if the validation has finished. On clicking, the users will be redirected to the Grafana dashboard where they can see more details. All we have to do is look for alerts and report them to right people. This tool is now being used company-wide and has become the one-stop solution for all real-time validations.

    We would be demonstrating how the service works and how it has reduced the turnaround time for reporting issues making QA proactive than being reactive.

    Product security testing and assessment methodologies have traditionally served consumer products and enterprise applications. These programs are usually well defined, with established architectures, target markets and product development cycles that span months or years.

    Enter the Internet of Things, where there are no predefined form factors. An “IoT product” may be a smart fridge, a pacemaker, or a traffic light in a smart city. Makers of these classes of devices are often small/medium sized businesses, who are racing against the large corporates and other similar sized competitors to launch their products first. They look for standards in communication protocols, software stacks, libraries, and reuse them wherever possible. But standards are few and rarely one-size-fits-all. When it comes to securing IoT products, there are a myriad of challenges on both process and technical fronts.


    In this presentation, we discuss the new era of IoT ecosystems (which include hardware form factors, mobile applications and cloud services all working together) and the various process as well as technical challenges involved in performing security assessments and penetration tests for these solutions. We will demonstrate examples of real vulnerabilities observed in market products (consumer and industrial IoT), and discuss how and why such vulnerabilities exist.

    We conclude with a presentation of next-generation product security assurance and testing methodologies that are better suited for modern computing solutions such as Cloud and IoT.

    There is no single company in this world who will say “We don’t care about quality”. What creates quality? Organization culture determines the Quality of the products that they build but most organizations have cultures that are anti-quality. Plus, the demand for good developers is so high and the supply has a huge shortage. So people end up hiring developers who want to write code but don’t want to test it.


    Testers are the reason why many crappy Culture and Engineering teams succeed. Product and Engineering teams offload the responsibility of Quality on Testers and continue writing crappy code. The sin of a tester is to accept the responsibility of Quality and trying to do it as a “Single Function” responsibility.

    I have used Automation in my career in a different way than what most of them have used. To me, automation has become building tools. Automating tests is 1% of what Automation is in Testing. As I began building tools, I realized I started to Save the Tester within me.

    Today, I am doing two things.


    Lot of testers ask, “What is the future of testing?” The future is what we create. In this talk, I would like to share the future of testing my teams and I are creating to save testers from bad cultures and sometimes from themselves. You will enjoy this talk and it will rattle you in good ways.

    With Agile and iterative methodologies of development, the need for faster cycle times and automated test script build and execution has gone up exponentially and made the task of testing more complex. Many customers today are faced with the problem of having large regression test suites which are defined over time and require large cycle times for automated build and execution. The solution for this problem is to have an intelligent test automation engine which can understand the intent of the functional test cases requirement and instantly generate the automation scripts. The intelligent test automation engine puts together the idea of using NLP techniques likes Tokenization, Tagging and Stemming as a tool for understanding the plain English test cases and build instantly executable automation scripts for the tools like Selenium, UFT etc.
